One of the things we value most about our internship program is seeing students continue to grow, and sometimes continue growing right alongside us.
Several of our 2026 interns first joined DARTCC™ in previous years and have chosen to continue sharing their time, ideas, and talents with our mission. Their work has touched technology, research, community preparedness, outreach, and the development of tools that are now being used to help communities prepare for disasters.

Helping Bring DARTGuardian™ to Life
Niti's work with DARTCC™ has grown from an internship into a significant contribution to the development of what is now DARTGuardian™.
Originally developed under the working name ReadyPets, the app was created to help pet guardians prepare before disaster strikes and connect them with important information and resources when emergencies occur.
Niti helped design core interfaces including guardian and animal profiles, daily care logs, and urgent care features. She also helped build the underlying structure of the application, creating more than 60 data fields for organizing information about people, animals, and emergency needs, as well as more than 30 contact modules designed to support communication and coordination.
Her work demonstrates exactly what we hope our internship program can provide: an opportunity for a student to learn while making a meaningful contribution to something that can help communities across the country.

Helping Make Our Technology Better
Havish brought his computer science, programming, robotics, and software-testing experience to DARTCC™ with a very practical goal: help make our technology work better when people need it.
His work has included testing EASApp®, identifying errors and areas for improvement, and helping us think methodically about how different parts of the application perform.
Havish's interest in disaster preparedness is also personal. After experiencing a house fire with his own family, he understood firsthand how suddenly an emergency can disrupt everyday life. That experience helped connect him with DARTCC™'s mission and the importance of having simple, reliable tools available during disasters.
We are grateful that Havish has continued to share both his technical skills and his time with DARTCC™.

Researching How Preparedness Makes a Difference
Iris joined DARTCC™ with interests that bring together environmental science, extreme weather, animals, and community preparedness.
Her research has helped DARTCC™ explore the connection between disasters and preparedness and better understand how information and education can help communities reduce risk.
That work has also contributed directly to our growing Readiness Library, including her research and writing about the role disaster preparedness plays in protecting both animals and people.
Iris brings curiosity and a desire to understand not just what happens during disasters, but what communities can do before they happen.

Building Knowledge and Connections
Anvitha brought strong research and organizational skills to DARTCC™, along with a genuine love of animals and an interest in disaster management.
Her work has included researching animal response organizations and deployment capabilities across the country and helping organize information that can strengthen connections among those working in disaster animal response.
That research supports a larger goal at DARTCC™: helping communities understand what resources exist, where help can come from, and how organizations can work together before a disaster occurs.
Anvitha's contribution reminds us that preparedness isn't only about technology. It's also about people knowing how to find and work with one another.
Our 2026 intern team continues to grow, and so will this page.
Each student who joins DARTCC™ brings something different: a new skill, a new question, a new perspective, or an idea we hadn’t considered.
We give our interns opportunities to learn, but they give just as much back to us.
