Potential offers of rescue and sheltering for the cetaceans stranded at Marineland, Canada have been offered by Shedd, Georgia, Mystic, and SeaWorld aquariums within the U.S.A.
These organizations have stepped forward to engage in critical rescue discussions. This is exciting news!
The potential of an upcoming transfer of the cetaceans from Marineland to aquariums in the United States is encouraging. It’s important to remember that these discussions are not yet final commitments. A conditional permit is not a guarantee of an animal’s health or their physiological ability to withstand the transfer and the move of a marine mammal is NOT an easy task!
Check out this amazing video about the years of planning and intense operational organization involved in recently moving two belugas from China into the Klettsvik Bay in Iceland… moving a cetacean is an enormous rescue operation!
The receiving sites have pledged that their decisions will be rooted in science and remain focused on the individual physical and social needs of these animals. (Toronto City News, 2026) As the planning and preparation begin, we’re reaching out to colleagues and communities across the globe - how can we / how can you support?
This rescue operation will be a community-wide endeavor.
